recipes, irreverent restaurant reviews and other tidbits for cynical vegan types who, at the end of the day, are only trying to get a little something to eat. based out of minneapolis but certainly not exclusive to that town.

Look, I eat honey. Now that that's out of the way...The Surly Vegan was started because I wished for something like it. As a vegan, I want to know which Thai restaurant tries to put fish sauce in every recipe they can, or which Mexican restuarant is sneaky with the lard and chicken broth, or which vegan pizza is actually worth spending money on. I figure we're talking about meals that we're paying money for, so I'm not interested in pulling any punches or hurting feelings. I understand that not every mom-n-pop so-called "ethnic" joint is going to know veganism from Volkswagen, but we still deserve to know what we're eating, right? Right? Besides, some of these other joints think they can make some dry-ass dairy-free scones and wind up in some on-line restaurant guide as "vegan friendly." Call me crazy, but when you give me shitty food and make me pay for it, I don't want to be your friend so much. I should also mention that while we are both based out of Minneapolis, The Surly Vegan is in no way affiliated with the Surly Bicycle Company (www.surlybike.com), though as near as I can tell, they seem to be a decent company (hooray for sealed bearings!).

LOL - Peta is now blocked by my work's filter! "Gruesome content" no shit. You will no doubt be pleased to know the POM Wonderful site is not blocked. I couldn't find anything about animal testing on their site. That's just crazy.
